Destiny’s six-person Raid, called Vault of Glass, does not feature the option for matchmaking with strangers – a controversial decision the developer took because it wanted players to plan and tackle the tougher mission with friends. At the time Bungie writer Luke Smith said he could “understand everyone’s frustration about the decision So, what’s to be done? In the latest Bungie Weekly Update community chief David “Deej” Dague said the developer was trying to work that out right now. It’s something we helped to pioneer. Yet, we understand its limitations. In the recipe of a Bungie game, Matchmaking has always contributed the ingredient of a team built to play one match of competitive multiplayer.

Mechanically, the updates focus around upgrading Exotic equipment, raising character levels to 32, and the addition of Legendary gear that sits below raid equipment and Exotics. Bungie has also reaffirmed its commitment to not adding in any sort of matchmaking service for the game’s raids while praising third-party sites that allow players to find others who wish to take on these raids.

Engagement and player experience in multi-player games is influenced by the people you play with. For that reason, grouping features and matchmaking facilities in games, as well as third-party services, have gained in popularity in the industry and player community as they assist in building and maintaining social relationships with like-minded players. Understanding how social connections are formed and how these relations can foster in-game activity offers insights for building and maintaining a player base and can, in turn, improve retention and engagement.

SBMM has become a semi-controversial topic in multiplayer games, and in Destiny specifically its knock-on consequences have included longer waits for matches and some real laggy laggers lagging up the place. Trials Of Osiris was always based on the number of wins on your ticket instead, and will remain so. Crucible matches do sometimes suffer with real laggy players from a continent away warping all over; less of that is good.
And the waits could be long, no doubt. The idea of removing skill as a factor in matchmaking is more contentious. If skill-based matchmaking is working well, every match will always be a challenge for everyone. Throwing together players of all skills does mean sometimes, yeah, great players might just dunk on the whole server. And some people do always want a challenging match around their level, to not dunk or be dunked.

I thought that ALL activities would have the matchmaking system update so I your hands up and saying good luck on third party sites finding gamers? I left Destiny for this game and they at least had an app to find.
However, the studio has finally launched its Guided Games feature for raids and Nightfall strikes in Destiny 2 , which allows one or two solo players to match up with an organized clan group of four or five players. But players using the feature are having some problems, and those issues show that Bungie was right to be apprehensive about matchmaking for so long. The Destiny population includes players with a range of skill, experience and dedication levels. That remains true even if you control for gear power levels.
Many players cannot or will not learn to do everything a raid requires, or they lack the manual dexterity to execute some of the more demanding strategies. Only about 16 percent of Destiny 2 players on PlayStation 4 have finished the raid.
Destiny 2’s new Guided Games feature will make it far easier to be a solo player

Yesterday, we reported on the news that Activision may have filed a patent a couple of years ago that could have taken advantage of matchmaking in multiplayer, encouraging players to spend more money on downloadable content in an effort to keep up with more experienced players.
Many Destiny players spent the past three years asking Bungie for in-game matchmaking for raids and other high-end activities, and Bungie has so far refused to add Third, players are encountering communication issues.
This ostensibly makes it difficult for skilled players to “climb” up the matchmaking ranking and out of Elo hell , due to the difficulty of consistently winning games under these conditions. Its existence in various games has been debated, and some game developers have called it an illusion caused by cognitive bias. The term was coined based on the Elo rating system designed by Arpad Elo , which was initially used for chess games but began to be used in video games as well.
Elo rankings have also been “abused” by players who create parties of their friends in order to “escape” Elo hell. Elo hell has also been noted as existing outside of video games, such as in the matchmaking app Tinder , which also uses a variant of the Elo rating system. Supposing that one is in Elo hell has been known to cause frustration and video game rage. This has caused games that use the Elo system to be noted as some of the most “toxic” games to play.
Esports players of competitive games have recommended that players who are “stuck in Elo hell” “take every game seriously” and focus on winning at all costs. Riot Games claimed in a update to the matchmaking FAQ of League of Legends that Elo hell did not exist, citing the Dunning-Kruger effect and negativity bias from their worst experiences with the game as reasons why players believe the system is “imbalanced”.

Destiny Doesn’t Need Matchmaking for Raids If you don’t know enough people to get a full Raid party together there are other solutions. I don’t think a third party website – even if it is effective – excuses Bungie’s lack of.
Did Bungie add an in-game matchmaking interface for group content? I haven’t been following TTK too closely, but I have been hearing rumblings that things have improved a great deal since vanilla Destiny and am interested in checking it out. One of my biggest gripes about the original Destiny was having to arrange raids and weeklies using a third party website. Is this still the case?
It’s still the case. No matchmaking for raids or the nightfall. Matchmaking is active for most everything else, though. The weekly strikes also no longer exist. The coins you would normally get from the weekly can now be found just from playing the game. I just wish they brought in matchmaking in case someone dropped from your group, having to redo entire nightfalls because someone drops out sucks.
Why Raid matchmaking won’t kill the game
